What Food should avoid and include in Kidney stone
A kidney is the filter source of our body. Like whatever we consume out of that the waste material is excreted through urine which is done by the kidney. It's like saying that if you drink water your kidney is going to keep you away from harmful things but if you don't drink enough water then what is going to happen?
Kidney stone-like condition is going to happen for sure. One of the most common conditions we heard nowadays more often is Kidney stones. In every house, we can easily find one person who is dealing with a problem like a kidney stone.
Now, what happens when you develop kidney stones. The first symptoms you will feel is there will be less urine formation in your body, then you might see blood in your urine, and pain will occur in like wave-like there will be a pain at the part where the stone has developed, sometimes the vomiting also occurs.

There are many types of stone like calcium oxalate, uric acid, calcium phosphate, cystine. These types of stones are most common. Now, who can develop the stones are genetic(if anyone has suffered from the same condition in your family then chances are increased the other person can also develop, like if the father has kidney stones then the children are at risk for developing the kidney stone), faulty food habits, drinking very less amount of water, medication or other kidney diseases. These all can be reasons for developing kidney stones.

What food causes kidney stones?
Diet rich in nutrients like protein, sodium, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Along with also foods which are acid-ash and alkaline ash foods after metabolization. If your diet is low in fiber which means the low taking of vegetables and fruits and along with that eating more sugar can also develop the risk of kidney stones. These substances can produce different types of stones in your body.
Protein-rich foods are Milk and dairy product, legumes, nuts, meat and meat products, poultry.
Sodium-containing foods are Meat, eggs, poultry, fish, processed foods, chutney pickles.
The foods that contain a high amount of calcium are Milk, cheese, some green leafy vegetables, and some legumes like rajma, soybean, ragi.
Potassium-rich foods are Meat, whole grains, poultry, leafy vegetables, banana, oranges, legumes.
The foods which are rich sources of magnesium are Meat, milk, nuts, seafood, cereals grains, legumes.
Acid ash foods are Meat, dairy products, starch, desserts(Plain cakes and cookies), fruits(Cranberries, prunes, and plums), vegetables(corn and lentils), and fat (Bacon, nuts like walnuts, brazil nut).
Alkaline ash foods are Milk and milk products, fat nuts like coconut, almond, and cashew, vegetables like spinach, turnip greens, mustard greens, fruits except for plums, prunes, and cranberries, and sweet like molasses.
If you're eating a large amount of these kinds of foods then the chances of your kidney stones are increased. I hope you will now get a clear idea about the foods from which your stone is coming.
Now the foods which you should include in your diet after diagnosed. Remember one thing always the kidney stone diet always depends on the kind or type of the stone.
If you're having calcium, magnesium, or phosphate stones then you have to includes are cereals, a protein-rich diet like nuts, meat, and meat products. The foods you should be avoided are all bakery foods, milk, fruits, and vegetables that are high in calcium, magnesium, and phosphate.
If you're having Uric acid or cysteine stone then go for the Alkali ash diet.
If your having calcium oxalate stone then goes for a low oxalate diet. The high oxalate foods are peanuts, nuts, wheat bran, spinach.
Apart from all this, there are some techniques you should try.
- Start drinking plenty of water. It is the best thing you can reduce the recurrence of kidney stones.
Drinking 2-3 liter a day which is 10-12 glasses a day is enough. If you can't increase sudden water in your diet then gradually add one glass per day and you will develop the habit of drinking water very quickly.
Or you can do is start carrying a water bottle with yourself, it will remind you to drink water and whenever you will feel thirsty you can immediately drink it. That is the benefit of carrying bottles.
And don't go for can juice or fruit juice, it contains water but the bottom line is it increases the risk of stone formation.
- The salt contains in your diet should be now less and you should try to avoid sodium foods also. All processed foods are high in sodium try to avoid them.
- Start to avoid foods like meat and meat products. Eating less is the best way. Instead of animal sources go for a diet based on plant sources which is the better option. Include lentils beans nuts in your diet.
- Go for calcium foods don't go for a supplement form of calcium.
- Lemonade or lemon juice with less sugar and no salt is also beneficial for kidney stone patients.
- Increase the fiber in your diet. Like, eat more fruit salad or vegetable salad.
- Eat less amount of fat in your diet.
- Don't eat much amount of sugar, always try to avoid them.
- Go for a whole grain-based diet.
- Include pomegranate and basil juice in your diet.
These all things you should avoid and include in your diet if you're having kidney stone problems. But remember the type of stone is the key to your diet. According to your stone, your diet should be followed. And hydration is also one of the important factors along with that try to include exercise in your life. Recurrence is going to happen in kidney stone because there is no other way for that but with proper medication and diet, you can always live a better life ahead.
