From our childhood, we all heard drink water, is important for you. But do you know exactly what is the main role of water?  What process occurs after drinking water, how and where is the need for water in our body, in which way the water play role in some diseases?

Water is the important nutrient out of seven nutrients. It is also the second source of oxygen in its vital importance to the human body. It is also said by someone, one can live without food for some time but without water, it is quite hard. 

Our body is made up of 65% water. 

Do you know that an infant's body contains more water than that of an adult? A thin person has a higher percentage of water than a healthy or fat person. Men have more amount of water in the body than women. All body tissues have water but there is a wide variation, for example, our blood contains 85-90%, teeth and bones contain 5% of water. 

We must have heard the word dehydration. But what does it means?

Dehydration is the condition that occurs in the body when there is depletion or less amount of water and fluid in the body. 

Now, what is the role or function of water in the body? 

1. We need more water than food. Researchers have given evidence on this theory. 

2. Water acts as a solvent (can dissolve substance) in all the digestion process. This is the reason why we feel thirsty after the meal. 

3. It also helps to nutrients for their better absorption. 

4. It also plays the role of the transporter. For example, it transports nutrients through the blood to all tissues.  

5. It is also known as a vehicle of wastage. As water is excreted from the body in the form of urine it also takes waste material from the body. This process is done by the kidney. 

6. It plays the role of lubricant and prevents friction between the moving parts. For example saliva, it is mixed with the food to make easy swallowing of food process. 

7. Do you know that water regulates the body temperature through evaporation from the lungs and skin. 

8. Do you know when the body waste is going out of the body, our skin will start to glow and hence your skin will not need any cosmetic product to show your real beauty. 

And all with this water also provide us energy it might be in very less amount, but you must have experienced it at some point in your life, After drinking water you felt refreshed. So that is why water is so important.  

Sources of water: I know this sounds strange. Like what are the sources of water, are there?

Of course not, Water is the one and only source of plane water, but that doesn't mean we don't add water in cooking preparations.

The food preparations mainly made up of water are soup, curries, or broth. Along with this Indian dal and liquid sabzi are also have water content. All the fruit juices, milkshakes, and beverages contain water. 

Along with all this natural content of water are also high in raw fruits like watermelon, muskmelon, pineapple, and vegetables like cucumber, cabbage. And the other form of natural water containing drink is coconut. It is natural to drink and filled with plenty of water. 

Milk also contains 80-88% of water, vegetables and fruits contain 80-90% of water, meat contains 40-75 % of water and flours, bread contains less amount water 5-35% of water. 

Next time, keep in mind all these sources of water also. 

Now the question is How much water a person should consume in a day?

We all have this question in our mind very often are we drinking enough or not. Let me clear it for you. 

The requirement of a normal adult is 2-3 liter of water per day. I know you must be like this is a lot of water but it is also different for some diseased condition. But drinking 1-2 liter of water is also good. But drinking hardly 1/2 liter of water can be harmful to you and drinking, not enough water is a link with your giving an invitation for the diseases of kidney, stomach, and skin also.

As the season changes, for summer we should drink more amount of water and for rainy and winter we should drink enough water for our kidneys, stomach and skin glow. 

Deficiency of water

As earlier mention, what is the deficiency of water. The lack of water amount in the body. Like other conditions and diseases, we see the symptoms and get the idea of the disease. The same is for the dehydration condition, once you will know the symptoms you will get an idea of what dehydration can cause in our body. 

The symptoms of dehydration are: thirst, thirst becomes stronger, there will be loss of appetite, the blood volume decraeses, there will be less physical performance, difficulty in concentrating, nausea will be there, dizziness, weakness, the renal functional will be impaired. 

The other reason of dehydration can be from another disease like diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, hot weather, strenous excercise, uncontrolled diabetes. 

For prevention from this condition drink plenty of water and stay helathy.
